ABOUT

Signs was born in the streets of Toulouse, when drummer Kemal Bergès and vocalist Damien Vainer met out of sheer coincidence. Was it faith that placed these two on each other’s path? Because it just so happened that Kémal had come to the south-west to find a band, and that Damien, who was already working with Gwen Vibancos and Paul Da Silva at the time, was actively looking for a drummer. A week later, Kémal came down to Rouvenac, a small village in the High valley of Aude, an area full of magic and wonder, and they had their first jam session. Right then and there, the guys knew they were going to be a band. The next week, they met again, this time at Kémals home, and started actually writing their first songs. That’s how it all started. Two months later, a new member joined the band as DJ, bringing electronic sounds to the musical landscape, Julien Menges Milhomis (aka « Julio ») It will take the Signs almost a year to find themselves a name that fit them perfectly. Once that was settled, the band had more than enough material to play live. Their first gig ever happened in Narbonne, thanks to “Furaya”, a good band that was pretty well known in the area. The public was immediately drawn to the “Signs” and several of the fans admit they saw this very first show and never stopped loving the band since. Signs then went on to record their very first demo, doing all the work themselves. Till the end, Gwen Vibancos, besides writing a lot of the songs, took care of creating artistic
concepts and drawing all the illustrations composing the visual universe of the band while also doing some logistic backup. Julien Menges was in charge of most of the logistics, also using his skills for computer graphics and communication to promote the band. Kémal Begrès recorded and engineered the sound. He took care of most of the sound production process, also working on the technical side, in building « Studio Signs », then the more official « AUM STUDIO », where the band recorded most of their music, mainly their album “Planets”. Jérémie was involved in the artistic and creative aspect during the recording of the album “Planets”, which he also produced and helped promote. Paul Dasilvas input was mostly creative as he wrote a lot of songs for the band, he was also to be thanked for driving half of the band to practice every week for five years.. Damien Vainer put his creative mind to writing music and lyrics. He was also responsible for a lot of artistic concepts for the band.
The signs wrote their music together, each and every one of them was involved in this process. Damien Vainer wrote all the lyrics. After their First demo and several great gigs, the Signs met up with Michton, a sound ingeneer, and the first EP began to take shape. Recorded at Woots studio, “Believe in the Signs” contained most of the bands popular tunes. Once the Signs had taken the record on the roads, they finally settled in a new location, a beautiful castle in the small village of Canet d’Aude. Around this time, a new member joined the adventure. Jeremy B, skilled guitarist and song writer brought a lot of energy as well as plenty of ideas and inspiration. Before long, he was part of the family.Around that time, two live shows were recorded, and the band started working on their album; “Planets”. It took quite a long time to produce because, even though they had access to the newly founded “AUM STUDIO”, they still had to do it all themselves, thankfully, Jérémie helped out a lot with the production of the album and Kémal Bergès recorded and mixed all the tracks. All the graphic designs and artwork were made by Gwen Vibancos and Julien Menges. But Signs never stopped playing live shows throughout this time of hard work, because that was where the bands energy resided, where the pleasure was the strongest. With "Planets" out in 2008, they toured for a whole year before they finally split up in 2009. The Signs then all went their separate ways. They’re still good friends and will always have millions of great moments of music and friendship to remember! These wonderful years of their lives filled with love from the fans, friends, families and pets.Art and creation will always be the most important outlet for each member of the band. Thanks to all those who were a part of this great ride.
